This specification covers the design, manufacture, performance, operation, functioning, and testing of USCG Type II Marine Sanitation Device or IMO MARPOL 73/78 Annex IV flow through treatment device intended to process sewage and graywater generated during the ship's normal service. This specification is intended for use by purchasers, designers, and manufacturers of shipboard environmental pollution control equipment to determine the requirements for equipment purchase, equipment use, and design considerations.

The device shall be capable of meeting the effluent requirements detailed in Table 1 with respect to ship's operational area.
