The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification SS-P-166D, Type II.
This commercial item description covers wood cased checking lead pencils for use as a marking medium on paper.
Intended use - Checking lead pencils are intended for freehand writing and marking, sketching, layouts, proofreading, checking and making bold markings
Classification - Pencils shall be one of the following types as specified (see section VIII). The hardness shall be indicated on the pencil in accordance with normal commercial practice.
Type I. Soft Type II. Firm
