Organization: NPFC
Publication Date: 21 June 1988
Status: active
Page Count: 61
scope:

This specification covers an environmentally hardened portable instrument that transforms the surrounding thermal energy in a manner that can be electrically-measured and converted to various parameters that-include the dry bulb temperature (DBT), wet bulb temperature (WBT), globe temperature (GT), and a heat stress index. The heat stress monitor (HSM) maybe microprocessor based.

This portable monitor used for physiological heat stress determination shall be classified as specified (see 6.2.1), according to the following variables:

Type Displayed functions (see 1.2.1) (see 1.2.2)

The HSM shall be designated by the following three-letter symbol:

Type Symbol Heat stress monitor HSM

Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, SEA 55Z3, Department of the Navy, Washington, DC 20362-5101 by using the self-addressed Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.

The HSM shall display the functions that are contained in the designated category and represented by the following numerical symbol:

Displayed functions Symbol Category 1 (see 3.3.3.1.1) 1 Category 2 (see 3.3.3.1.2) 2

intended Use:

The HSMs are for measurement of environmental conditions in spaces on HSMs on board ship that may produce heat stress to personnel in areas such as machinery spaces, firerooms, galleys, and... View More
