scope:
This standard covers general design and performance requirements of military equipment for internal air transport in military prime mission cargo aircraft and the long range international segment of the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF). This standard also contains general design and performance requirements for military equipment to be airdropped from Air Force cargo aircraft. The complete air transportability and airdrop requirements for an item of equipment not specified herein shall be specified in the individual equipment specification.
The requirements and tests contained in this standard apply to the internal air transportability and airdrop aspects of all items intended for aerial delivery in CRAF or USAF aircraft. They represent the minimum acceptable transportability and airdrop features. When it is known that the equipment will require features that are more restrictive than those stated herein, the more stringent features will be specified in the individual equipment specification.
Any projected design that will improve performance, safety, or reliability or reduce life cycle and end item cost through deviations from this standard, or where the requirements of this standard result in a compromise of the item for the sake of air transportability or airdrop, shall be brought to the attention of the procuring activity for consideration.
