This document is restricted to AST technologies that enable and facilitate the automatic collection and transmission of logistic asset information. It does not dictate the use of specific information systems, hardware or software. It is, only to standardise data formats and the communication of data between future and/or existing NATO, national and commercial AST systems.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to establish NATO's AST policy. It details AST principles and policies for a NATO-wide AST capability. It is the basis for the development of standardised NATO and national AST capability at the point of interface with future and/or existing NATO, national, and commercial AST systems. It provides guidelines for the establishment of an interoperable data exchange capability. AST standardisation is to utilise best commercial practice and available international standards and technology.
APPLICABILITY
This document is applicable to peace and the full spectrum of potential NATO operations. It focuses on the commonly understood areas of logistics as defined in AAP-6.
AIM
The overall aim of the Policy is to establish standards for a NATO AST capability to provide NATO and national commanders with timely and accurate information on the identity, location, movement and condition of materiel in the support chain.
