This part of the NES comprises:

a. general information relative to manufacture;

b. material approval and test requirements peculiar to the toroidal sealing rings of a particular material composition;

c. surface finish standards common all elastomeric toroidal sealing rings;

d. test tolerance;

e. system and equipment applications.

This NES is applicable to Surface Ships and Submarines, Ship and Submarine Systems and Equipment, Weapon Systems and Equipment.

Exemptions:

a. Examples of the applications which will not be satisfied by the materials specified in this NES are: explosives, special electrical properties and those where there are environmental temperature requirements below-30°C.
