SENSORS, ABSOLUTE PRESSURE, FIBER OPTIC (NAVAL SHIPBOARD USE)

inactive
Organization: NAVY
Publication Date: 12 June 1995
Status: inactive
Page Count: 33
scope:

This specification covers the requirements for fiber optic absolute pressure sensors for Naval ships, but does not include the readout display (see 6.1).

The sensor classification shall consist of a series of designations which shall be assigned and listed in the format below.

24796 - X - X - XXX - XX - X - X Specification Type Application Range Input Opto-Electronics Output Power Module 1.2.1.1 1.2.1.2 1.2.1.3 1.2.1.4 1.2.1.5 1.2.1.6

The sensor type shall be designated by the single letter symbol as follows:

R - Pressure (absolute)

The media to be measured shall be indicated as follows:

A - Freshwater, condensate, steam, nitrogen, and other inert gases; and liquid hydrocarbons (fuel, lube oil)

S - Seawater

G - Flue gas and ammonia

O - Oxygen Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, SEA 03R42, 2431 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Arlington, VA 22242-5160, by using the Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.

The pressure range of the sensor head shall be designated as follows:

32B - 14.7 to 30 psia

33B - 14.7 to 60 psia

34B - 14.7 to 100 psia

35B - 14.7 to 200 psia

36B - 14.7 to 300 psia

37B - 14.7 to 400 psia

38B - 14.7 to 600 psia

39B - 14.7 to 1000 psia

40B - 14.7 to 1500 psia

The opto-electronics module interface wiring shall be determined by the power supply as follows:

AC - Four wire system used with a 115 Volt (nominal) alternating current (ac) supply

DC - Two wire system used with a 28 Volt (nominal) direct current (dc) supply

The opto-electronics module shall be designated as follows:

A - Bulkhead mounted

B - Console mounted

The electrical signal output of the sensor shall be designated by the following symbols (see 3.4.7).

A - Milliampere (mA)

V - Volt (V)

O - Optical (and current)

D - Digital (and current)

intended Use:

Sensors are intended to provide control input and monitoring of absolute pressure for shipboard engineering plants.
