This instruction implements Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 21-1, Managing Aerospace Equipment Maintenance. This Air Force Instruction (AFI) in conjunction with AFPD 21-1 establishes procedures for maintaining land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). It applies to Headquarters US Air Force, Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), and subordinate ICBM units. Users should send comments and suggested improvements on AF Form 847, Recommendation for Change of Publication, through channels, to HQ USAF/ILMW, 1030 Air Force Pentagon, Washington DC 20330-1030. This instruction may be supplemented at any organizational level. Major commands (MAJCOM) will send one copy of each to the next higher headquarters. This instruction does not apply to the US Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard. Attachment 1 lists abbreviations, acronyms, and terms.
