This standard establishes minimum requirements for surface preparation, surface treating, painting and finishing of fire control materiel. The requirements in this standard are indicated in relation to basic finish-system code numbers established in MIL-STD-171 which represent basic finish-system requirements also established in MIL-STD-171. MILSTD-171 forms a necessary part of this standard.
