FOREWORD

A decade ago, one of my predecessors instituted 'Standards in Defence News' (SID News) as a medium by which D Stan could rapidly and conveniently promulgate significant items of standardization news and remind MOD and Industry of the existence and benefits of standards. Serial No. 1 actually stated 'Many of the activities concerned with standards and standardization are made known in a variety of ways and consequently do not necessarily come to the notice of all those in the MOD who need to know about them. I have therefore decided to issue "Standards in Defence News" in which news about standards within the MOD, the BSI, and internationally can be made known rapidly throughout the Ministry'. It was not very long before the distribution of SID News was expanded to include the industrial organizations with whom we deal; it is vital that both Industry and MOD tread the same path.
