This specification covers portable, sealed, rechargeable nickel cadmium batteries. Detailed electrical and physical requirements for individual batteries are specified on specification sheets.

The type designation of nickel cadmium, sealed rechargeable batteries shall be in the following form (see 3.1).

Rechargeable batteries are identified by the two-letter symbol "BB" followed by a hyphen. The battery type number identifies the basic design of the battery (see 3.1) and consists of a three digit number.

The installation indicator identifies the equipment the battery is used in; i.e., /TAS, or if "universal," i.e., /U indicates use in various equipment.

Battery, rechargeable sealed, nickel-cadmium is used in electronic and communications equipment, and for other power requirements.
