The Technical Report is not to be regarded as an international standard. It is proposed for provisional application. It describes issues concerning type III declaration and corresponding programmes. A type III declaration is a quantified environmental life cycle product information provided by a supplier and based on independent verification and (e.g. critically reviewed) systematic data. It is to be presented as a set of categories of parameter (for a sector group). Type III includes information supplied to industrial customers and to end-use consumers. It is non-selective but presents the information in a format that facilitates comparison between products. The overall goal is to encourage the demand for and the supply of those products and services that cause less stress on the environment thereby stimulating the potential for market-driven continuous environmental improvement.
