scope:

This Defence Standard (DEF STAN) , in conjunction with the documents referred to herein, provides guidance information for the design of lightning protection systems in HM Surface Ships.

The guidance given is to be used in the preparation of a basic System Requirement Document (SRD) and supporting drawing(s) to define the system for a particular ship.

Sea Technology Group Surface Ships (STGSS) Sponsor Section or other Authority responsible for the electrical design of the vessel has overall responsibility for formulating the detailed system requirements but the advice of the Ship Support Agency/Marine Electrical Systems 1 (WSA/MLS1) is to be sought when significant deviations from this DEF STAN are considered necessary.
