Foreword

This draft European Telecommunication Standard (ETS) has been produced by the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), and is submitted for the Public Enquiry phase of the ETSI standards approval procedure.

This draft standard concerns the technical arrangements for the transmission of digital sound with certain television systems, and allows for two mono channels or up to one stereo channels, in each case with a small amount of additional data capacity.

In view of the urgency in presenting the technical content of this proposed standard for public comment, it has not undergone the usual ETSI editing process before being admitted to the present public enquiry, and the text is not in the ETSI house style. The text will be edited and re-styled before the draft is submitted to national vote
