This standard establishes the height at which handrails, intermediate rails, and toe boards are required on portable work platforms for maintenance activities.

This standard does not prevent the use of these safety devices at less than the standard height when warranted by local conditions. Any questions regarding the need for these devices at less than standard height shall be resolved by the local safety activity.
