scope:
This procedure describes a method for measurement of dust-out from fiber sound absorber pad. It applies to both needled and resin-bonded constructions, and to unfaced as well as coated and film-covered materials. The combined dust-out from material surface and cut edge is measured. This procedure is intended for use in assembly plants and/or for production quality control.
NOTE: Fiber sound absorber pad is inherently a variable, commodity
product. Therefore, large
variations in dust-out are to be expected from lot to lot and even
part to part. These variations
in dust result from raw material composition variability and handling
of finished goods. Caution
should be used in applying this procedure and ratings to minimization
of dust. While continuous
improvement in material dust-out can be expected through
specification-driven
