INTRODUCI'ION
Temporary protectives are normally used for protection of metal parts against corrosion in storage. 'Temporary' refers to the fact that the material is easily removable and has no implications regarding the length of time for which the material is effective as a corrosion preventive.
The temporary protectives are listed according to type, consistency and thickness of film applied.
Unless otherwise stated, temporary protectives are likely to have deleterious effects on natural and synthetic rubbers and contact with these materials should be avoided.
For items having Joint Service Designations (PX-4, OX-275, etc.) further details will be found in Defence Guide DG-12 'Petroleum Oils and Lubricants (POL) and Allied Products'.
Full information on the use of temporary protectives in packaging will be found in DEF-1234-A 'Production requirements for Service packaging' and D%-11 'Design requirements for Service packaging'.
