1. Scope

1.1 This method covers the determination of the liquid flow rate of membrane filters having mean pore diameters from 5.0 to 0.10 µm (Note 1). The technique employs water or Stoddard solvent for flow rate measurement (Note 2).

NOTE 1--Membrane filters having liquid flow rates in excess of 700 mL/min·cm2 at 700 mm Hg differential pressure cannot be tested by this method due to the limiting flow rate of the filter holder.

NOTE 2--The selection of water or Stoddard solvent as the test liquid will generally depend upon the intended application of the membrane filter. Stoddard solvent is recommended for the testing of all hydrophobic membrane filters.
