This Defence Standard 372 Part 4, specifies the through life cleaning processes to 'Oxygen-Clean' standard of Gaseous Oxygen (GOX) Compressor equipment, components, pipework and support systems.
This Defence Standard also specifies:
'Oxygen-Clean' standard and contamination test procedures for GOX Compressor equipment, components, pipework and support systems;
Preservation, packaging and storage of 'Oxygen-clean' Low Pressure (LP) Compressor equipment, components, pipework and support systems;
Storage and handling of solvents and acids specified for cleaning processes;
Responsibilities of management and operators for safety when engaged in cleaning processes.
This Defence Standard is applicable to manufacture, build, storage, transit, installation, operational maintenance and refit of GOX Compressor whether at MOD contractors, in Submarines or HM Surface Ships or at Royal Naval (RN) Store Establishments and Dockyards.
This Defence Standard does not cover cleaning of GOX Compressor specified to Grade 'B' and 'C' standards. This information is contained in DEF STAN 02-341 (NES 341).
The procedures detailed in this Defence Standard must not be applied to High Pressure Electrolyser (HPE) equipment, Liquid Oxygen (LOX) Plants or any components, pipework and support systems associated with such equipment.
The procedures detailed in this Defence Standard must not be applied to the Low Pressure Electrolyser (LPE). This information is contained in DEF STAN 02-372 Part 2 (NES 372 Part 2).
The standards quoted in this Defence Standard are also applicable to associated systems connected to the GOX Compressor and the methods described may be appropriate for use in achieving the required standard of cleanliness for those systems.
