Purpose and Goal

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for the management of software that is loadable aboard aircraft, referred to as Field Loadable Software (FLS). Various terms are used to refer to this software, including Loadable Software Aircraft Parts (LSAP), data bases, and other types of operational data. This document is intended to be broad and apply to all FLS. The key features of this software are as follows:

a. Capable of software load on aircraft

b. Part number is electronically verifiable on aircraft by accessing target hardware memory

c. Does not change target hardware part number

d. The software has its own unique part number

e. The software part may be an aircraft part

f. The software can be uploaded regardless of current software state and will not prevent a previous version from over writing it.
