Machine Types Included. The requirements of this standard apply to those machines that, by use of a rotating cutter, remove metal or other materials in drilling, milling, boring, and related operations.

These machines may be used for single or combined functions with single or multiple spindles at single or multiple work stations.

These machines may be manually, semiautomatically, or automatically controlled. I .

Machine Types Excluded. Specific machine types excluded are those designed primarily to perform the following operations: These machines may be used for single or combined

(1) Sawing

(2) Abrasive (grinding)

(3) Electric discharge

(4) Electrochemical

(5) Woodworking

(6) Gear processing

Power tools portable by hand are also excluded from this standard.

Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to establish safety requirements with respect to the construction, care, and use of drilling, milling, and boring machines and related equipment.
