The cathode ray tube (CRT) covered by this specification utilizes an all glass envelope with a 23-inch diameter, circular faceplate, a magnetic deflection angle of 62 degrees and electrostatic focusing. It has a safety panel consisting of polycarbonate plastic and chemically strengthened glass, bonded to the faceplate. The outer surface of the safety panel is treated to minimize front surface reflections. A metal rimband covers the shoulder area of the CRT to provide protection from implosion.

This CRT will be used as part of the National Airspace System (NAS) in the Plan View Display (PVD) to the display alphanumeric, symbolic and map data to air traffic controllers.
