scope:
Policies and procedures established by MIL-STD-1399 are mandatory. This section and the basic standard are to be viewed as an integral single document.
This section establishes requirements for the documentation of interface parameters during the design of electronic systems/equipment to provide for an engineering assessment of interface compatibility between two or more shipboard electronic systems/equipments which may subsequently be interconnected.
The basic characteristic and constraint categories concerned with this interface are shown symbolically on figure 1 (see paragraph "Definitions" of MIL-STD-1399):
The specific details of the interface characteristics and constraints are descried in 5.2 and 5.3.
This section applies to all Navy electronic systems/equipment regardless of whether at the time of design and production such electronic system/equipment are intended to be interfaced with other systems/equipment or are expected to operate independently.
