This INTERIM Defence Standard specifies requirements for three classes of stoving varnish for use on steel ammunition stores. The steel should normally be pretreated in accordance with Def Stan 03-11.
This INTERIM Standard is an alternative to CS 1844 dated October 1943.
The designation 'Type QX' indicates that the material is of a quality suitable for certain applications where a high degree of compatibility with explosives is a requirement. However, its compatibility with all explosives in all environments has not been established and Design Authorities should seek advice on particular applications from the Head of Energetic Materials and Terminal Effects Department, Defence Research Agency, Fort Halstead, Sevenoaks, Kent TN14 78P.
