This specification covers safety devices to be used in fluorescent lamp fixtures, to prevent lamp(s) from shaking loose and falling.

Safety devices shall be of the following classes and types, as specified (see 6.1):

Classes: Class I - For use with 40-watt T-12 rapid-start fluorescent lamp (USAS C78,700). Class II - For use with 96-inch (800-milliampere) T-12 rapid-start fluorescent lamp (USAS C78.702). Class III - For use with 96-inch (1.5-ampere) T-12 and PG-17 rapid-start fluorescent lamp (USAS C78.707). Types: Type I - For use with open-end fixtures. Type II - For use with closed-end fixtures.
