Organization: NPFC
Publication Date: 14 March 1994
Status: active
Page Count: 5
scope:

This Commercial Item Description covers cord-connected surge suppressors with or without individual switches for receptacles. These transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS) are intended to limit the maximum amplitude of transient voltage surges on shipboard power lines that supply personal computers and other peripheral equipment.

These CID requirements cover hybrid surge suppressors: an assembly of series and parallel, or any combination of suppression elements with compatible filter devices to limit voltages, current or both to a specified level. The hybrid TVSS shall include sine wave clamping capability, multiple stage surge clamping, and an EMI/RFI noise filtering network.

These transient voltage surge suppressors are intended to be installed on the load side of the ship's branch overcurrent protection device and operate on an ungrounded delta electrical system. They are not intended to function as surge arrestors.
