This standard covers the requirements and tests for the impregnation of structurally sound castings and powder metal components in aluminum, magnesium, copper, iron, (excluding steels) and zinc alloys. Components for Naval service shall be shown to be structurally sound in accordance with MIL-STD-278. It is also applicable to test specimens used for evaluating impregnating materials in accordance with MIL-I-17563.
