This ETS defines the stage one of the Connectionless Broadband Data Service (CBDS) which can be provided by MANs and an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)-based network to extend Local Area Network (LAN)-like performance across a metropolitan or wide area. Whilst this bearer service category is aiming primarily at LAN interconnections, other uses are also envisaged. This 4 part ETS defines a CBDS which is independent of the layers above.
