This INTERIM Defence Standard specifies requirements for a high quality black butyl compound designated IIR MD 35, the number being the nominal hardness of the vulcanizate as given in clause 9, intended for the manufacture of respirator components.
The designation 'Type MD' indicates that the materials, when correctly vulcanized, are suitable for use in certain applications involving contact with the human skin. The choice of ingredients used in the manufacture is therefore controlled and special processing precautions are specified.
No changes shall be made to this INTERIM Standard without the wrinen agreement of the Design Authority and the nominated technical authority
