scope:
This specification sets forth Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and Naval Electronic Systems Command (NAVELEX) content requirements for manuals necessary for installation, operation, organizational-, intermediate-, and depot-level maintenance, repair, and parts support (without services of manufacturer's representatives) of equipment and systems.
Unless otherwise specified, type I and type II manuals shall include all information necessary to perform all (organizational, intermediate, and depot-level) maintenance. No manual shall omit maintenance or logistics information for any equipment or component thereof designated repairable, regardless of the location of the designated repair point (ship, tender, or shore facility) unless the contract requires that the information be included in a separate document to be provided to the Government and reference is made thereto.
Manuals shall be of the following types, as specified (see 6.2 and 6.6):
Type I - Hull, mechanical and electrical equipment manuals.
Type II - Electronic and interior communications equipment manuals.
Type IIS - Service test electronic and interior communications equipment manuals.
Type IIX - Experimental electronic and interior communications equipment manuals.
Type III - System manuals.
The following technical manual data items are detailed by this specification (see 6.2):
(a) Book plan.
(b) Quality program.
(c) Manuscript (review) (see 3.11.3 and 3.13.4).
(d) Preliminary manuals (see 6.5.10).
(e) Reproducible copy.
(1) Preliminary manual.
(2) Final manual (basic).
(3) Change (permanent and interim).
(4) Revision.
(f) Printed manuals.
(g) Status reports.
(h) Photolithographic negatives.
