AIM

1. The aim of this agreement is to standardize:

(a) The layout of the Meteorological Messages designated in paragraph 3 below, both in punched tape and hard copy format.

(b) The use of machine operating characters (e.g. figure shift, letter shift).

(c) The use of introductory and terminating digits.

(d) The location within the message of any check characters transmitted for the purpose of error detection.

(e) The character code to be used for punched tape.

2. This standard layout will make it possible:

(a) For Artillery Units to be able to read Meteorological Messages into their equipment either directly in punched tape form, or from hard copy without the necessity for editing the received message.

(b) For messages in punched tape form to be compatible with Artillery ADP message entry devices using 5 unit code.
