This Defence Standard, together with its subsequent sections and appropriate connector assembly schedule sheet, specifies the requirements of connector/cable assemblies consisting of cables or wires terminated with plugs and/or sockets, electrical (connectors) selected from the Standard ranges contained in the Defence Standards listed in clauses 2b and c below.

The detailed requirements of assemblies using non-standardized cables or connectors cannot be specified because of the variety of special requirements. In such instances, however, the principles set out in this Standard should be applied and a related assembly method adapted to suit the particular requirements. Such adaptations may be submitted to the Director of Standardization to be considered for inclusion in this Standard.

The detailed requirements of assemblies contained within conduit cannot be given at this time because of the variety of such fittings that exist. However, the general principles for assembly are given in clause 10 of this Standard, in due course detailed 'Connector assembly schedule sheets' will be issued for individual items.
