This standard test method covers exterior protective coatings for offshore platíorm steel structures, piers, docks, pilings, subsea valves, and wellheads at normal seawater temperature. If the steel temperature is much higher than the seawater temperature, higher test temperatures shall be used.

The entire test time is only 12 weeks. Five test methods-including cathodic disbondment, seawater immersion resistance, dimensional stability, aging stability, and edge retention-are used to evaluate coating systems.
