This Defence Standard (Def Stan) specifies the requirements for the design, development and testing of Low Voltage (LV) Electrotechnical and Weapon Equipment intended for fitting as appropriate in HM Surface Ships, Submarines and Shore Establishments.

For replacement legacy equipment or legacy replacement equipment for use on existing platforms, any deviation from these requirements will be stated in the STR/WPD.

There are a number of requirements within this Def Stan that makes reference to Lloyds Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Naval Ships. Where these rules are considered to be inappropriate for use on Submarines further information is to be sought from the DS.

This Def Stan does not include any requirements for High Voltage (HV) equipment. Further information for HV Electrical Power Systems can be found in Def Stan 02-607
