This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the general rules common to analytical methods of iron, steel and nickel chromium steel alloy, in a group of Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) specifying determination methods and analytical methods of individual elements of iron and steel, and those specifying analytical methods of nickel chromium iron alloy (hereafter referred to as "a group of standards of iron and steel analytical methods").
The term "iron", for the purpose of this Standard, is pig iron, cast iron and the like and the term "steel" is carbon steel, low alloy steel and high alloy steel (including stainless steel). Pure iron and soft iron are included in steel.
