CSA Preface

This is the first edition of CAN/CSA-M5700, Tractors for agriculture and forestry - Roll-over protective structures (ROPS) - Static test method and acceptance conditions, which is an adoption without modification of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 5700 (fourth edition, 2006-11-15).

This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with CSA B352.0.

This Standard is one in a series of CSA Standards on roll-over and tip-over protection for mobile construction, industrial, mining, forestry, and agricultural machinery. This series consists of the following Standards:

(a) M3463, Tractors for agriculture and forestry - Roll-over protective structures (ROPS) - Dynamic test method and acceptance conditions;

(b) M3471, Earth-moving machinery - Roll-over protective structures - Laboratory tests and performance requirements;

(c) M5700, Tractors for agriculture and forestry - Roll-over protective structures (ROPS) - Static test method and acceptance conditions;

(d) M8082, Self-propelled machinery for forestry - Roll-over protective structures - Laboratory tests and performance requirements;

(e) M12003-1, Agricultural and forestry tractors - Roll-over protective structures on narrow-track wheeled tractors - Part 1: Front-mounted ROPS;

(f) M12003-2, Agricultural and forestry tractors - Roll-over protective structures on narrow-track wheeled tractors - Part 2: Rear-mounted ROPS; and

(g) M12117, Earth-moving machinery - Tip-over protection structure (TOPS) for compact excavators - Laboratory tests and performance requirements.

This series of Standards supersedes CSA B352.1 and CSA B352.2, Rollover Protective Structures (ROPS) for Agricultural, Construction, Earthmoving, Forestry, Industrial, and Mining Machines, Parts 2 and 3, published in 1995.

Additional Standards will be added to the series as they are developed.

Adoption of these ISO Standards on ROPS and TOPS, along with Standards such as ISO 3776 on operator restraint systems, will aid in the safe design of mobile construction, industrial, mining, forestry, and agricultural machinery across North America.

This Standard was reviewed for Canadian adoption by the CSA Technical Committee on Roll-over Protective Structures, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Occupational Health and Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada.
