PREFACE

In this time of uncertain geopolitical events and natural disasters, the petroleum industry continues to direct its energy in positive and constructive ways. For over half a century, API's Joint Association Survey on Drilling Costs (JAS) has been and continues to be a testament to the industry's continuing efforts to explore for and find the oil and natural gas needed to keep America going strong.

This 61st edition of the JAS is a small contribution to the industry that the Institute has represented faithfully since 1919. As stakeholders in the domestic oil and gas industry, including the more than 640 API member companies plan their future business activities, we hope the JAS helps improve their operations, allowing them to better meet the challenges of the future.

The data presented in this report are broken down by well type (oil wells, gas wells, and dry holes) and by depth interval. Additionally, tables are displayed that disaggregate the data by well class (exploratory wells and development wells) and offshore and onshore production. A few regional and state tables are also available in this report. In addition, the Analysis & Trends section of the report offers specific information concerning general, shale, sidetrack, coalbedmethane, and offshore drilling.
