Organization: DIN

ICS Code (Welding processes): 25.160.10
scope:

General

The suitability of a material for welding cannot be evaluated on the basis of material characteristics alone and must be established using welding tests in many cases. That applies, in particular, to the electron beam weldability since there are a number of wellknown materials which, although they are not suitable for other welding processes, can be welded with the electron beam. Furthermore, it is difficult to formulate the weldability unambiguously, e.g. in the form of a yes/no statement. As already mentioned for other welding processes in the DIN specialist report ISO/TR 581, the suitability of a material for electron beam welding is also dependent on the scope of process and appliance engineering (e.g. type, number and settability of welding parameters). In the present technical bulletin, the weldability is therefore described in relation to this scope for various materials and is divided into three levels.
