Scope of application

The demands not only to raise the degree of refinement of the materials in order to obtain favourable utilisation properties adapted to the stress conditions but also to achieve a rise in the effectiveness of the heat treatment lead to far-reaching perspectives for the application of electron beam hardening (EBH). Almost the entire metal processing industry offers application possibilities for electron beam hardening. This results in a wide spectrum of components with exceptionally differentiated prerequisites in relation to application conditions specific to the procedure, the material and the component.

Taking account of these different initial variables, the present technical bulletin aims to impart comprehensive notes and knowledge for the sensible use of electron beam hardening. The technical bulletin should offer, above all, specialist support during the design-related and technological preparation of the fabrication of components to be case-hardened using the electron beam.
