Field of Application and Scope
Guideline VDE/VDI 3511 "Temperature Measurement in Industry " contains Information for expedient temperature measurements along with the major aspects for the assessment of measuring uncertainties. Basic knowledge of temperature measurement is assumed. Descriptions of equipment and circuitry are therefore dealt with only to the extent necessary for understanding this Guideline. Measuring equipment shall be selected for the measurements concerned according to the measuring conditions and error limits required.
In general, a smaller measuring uncertainty is required for acceptance tests than for industrial measurements, in which often greater stress is placed on reliability and rugged construction of the measuring de vice. Temperature measuring equipment is also often used which has been calibrated or tested by an official calibration or testing Station (restorability to statutory temperature scales). It shall thereby be ensured that the values obtained during calibration or inspection are still applicable to the application of the measuring equipment (measuring stability).
Part 3 contains details concerning the processing of Output signals from temperature sensors with electrical Output signals described in Part 2. The circuits indicated are theoretical circuits, mainly intended to facilitate the assessment and estimation of influence quantities on measuring uncertainty. It is essential for all evaluation equipment with digital displays and influences measuring uncertainty.
