The measurement method for NH3 in ambient air described here can only be used in the mass concentration range up to 25 μg ·m-3 (as monthly mean). Depending on the task, it is possible to determine hourly to monthly mean values with a shorter sampling period even at higher concentrations.
Normally cylindrical denuders are used for long-term sampling while annular denuders have proven themselves in determining daily or hourly mean values.
When setting up the denuders, it should be noted that vegetation can act not only as a source but also as a sink for NH3. For this reason a suitable height above the vegetation should be observed (see Section 6.3) since marked vertical concentration gradients could be present.
