General

Presses transfer forces in the vertical direction into forming, cutting or punching dies. If different force directions are required, the corresponding directionchanging measures will need to be implemented.

This redirecting of forces is an area of toolmaking with which designers and toolmakers are in many aspects concerned. Not only do they strive to satisfy desires for a new design and improved quality of the products to be manufactured but also there are equally important requirements to be met regarding reductions in the cost of production, care and maintenance.

For mechanical force redirection the design has so far had at his disposal slide units, such as standard cam slide units, roller cams and other wedge tapered elements (VDI 3386).

However, a new system of force redirection in toolmaking is eminently suitable for this: the so-called "hydraulic cam system" which is hydraulically based.
