scope:
The standard shall apply to the ventilation and air conditioning installations in car parks. Car parks are buildings or parts of buildings that serve for parking of motor vehicles. Closed medium (100 m2 to 1000 m2 ) and large car parks (over 1000 m2), both above ground and underground, must be adequately ventilated.
The standard shall not apply to automatic and open car parks.
Furthermore, this standard shall not apply to rooms that are designed for long-stay of persons. A treatment of the supply air is therefore usually not necessary. If a longer stay in a workplace in the car park is planned (e.g. supervisor area, cash office), the workplace standards must be observed. Usually such rooms must be equipped with a separate air-conditioning system, which prevents accumulation of exhaust gases in the air.
The car park ventilation is used to extract pollutants. Other issues are not considered in this VDI Standard. These are for example:
- extraction of humidity in winter (e.g. drying wet cars)
- moisture ingress in the summer (e.g. mould growth)
- smoke ventilation in case of fire
When applying this standard, an adjustment to the local regulations (car parks regulations of the Federal States) in their current versions is essential.
