scope:

The purpose of this guideline is to provide information about the qualifications applicable to a Competent Person tasked with conducting inspections of fixed or movable and mobile lifting tables in accordance with DIN EN 1494 and DIN EN 1570-1, within the meaning of the Workplace Safety and Health Ordinance (BetrSichV).

This guideline applies to lifting tables or related equipment which are fixed or movable and mobile and intended to be used for supporting the load from below on a load-bearing platform and guiding the load through the full range of movement.

This guideline applies for example to the following lifting tables:

• hand-operated lifting tables
• powered lifting tables
• fixed lifting tables
• movable and mobile lifting tables
• lifting tables for raising or lowering goods
• lifting tables for raising or lowering goods and persons and having a maximum vertical range of 3,0 m.

This guideline does not cover the inspection of:

• permanently installed lifting tables with a cabin and serving defined levels of a building
• permanently installed lifting tables with a vertical range greater than 2,0 m, which do not have a cabin and which serve defined levels of a building
• powered lifting platforms for the handicapped
• lifting tables as ground equipment in aviation
• lifting tables for use on ships
• lobile elevating work platforms
• vehicle-mounted lifting platforms for maintenance work
• mobile lifting tables for firefighting
• mobile lifting tables used as fork-lift trucks, pallet trucks and elevating picking trucks
• mobile lift trucks with a driving speed exceeding 1,6 m/s
• storage and retrieval machines
• stage-raising and -lowering equipment in theatres
• lifting tables with a combustion-engine drive for the table

The qualification of employees of an approved inspection centre (Zugelassene Überwachungsstelle or ZÜS) is not covered either
