scope:
In the guideline VDI/VDE 2617 Part 5.1, the general statements of VDI/VDE 2617 Part 5 as regards artefact design specifications, the performance of the measurement and the evaluation of the measurement results are put into more precise terms for the example of ball plates. Particular importance is attached to standardised artefacts, standardised reporting, and cost-effective performance of interim checks. It is, therefore, recommended that CMM manufacturers extend their product range by evaluation software in addition to the measurement software (see Section 3). The ball plate sizes specified in this guideline are practical in CMMs with displacements £ 1200 mm. Interim checks of CMMs with longer displacements should be performed using one-dimensional artefacts.
This guideline deviates from the guidelines VDI/VDE 2617 Part 2.1 and Part 5 in the following respects:
• determination of probing error
Unlike Part 5, only a spherical material standard is measured for determining the probing error. Furthermore, a different number and arrangement of probing points is specified.
• evaluation of measurement results
For the sake of simplicity and to gain a better overview, interim check (IC) factors are introduced, which can be recorded in control charts. Two statistics for the probing performance and one statistic for the distance errors are used to describe the performance of the CMM.
• use of certified evaluation software
This guideline stipulates the use of software certified by a
national body such as, in Germany, the Physikalisch-Technis
