Guideline VDI 2157 serves as a basis for selecting and designing planetary transmissions for use in motive power engineering. The aim is to create an organized approach to the basic designs, to provide uniformity in term definitions, in designations and in graphic representations and also to supply a universally applicable calculation method which can be used for all simple and compound planetary gear systems.
