This standard applies to temperature measurement using contact thermometers. It gives important information for the assessment of thermometers in terms of their time response. Especially with rapidly changing temperatures or at very short measuring processes, it is important to know the characteristics of thermometers. Only then the measured value for the temperature can be interpreted correctly. A comparison of thermometers is possible only by using the description of the time response.
