Introduction
In the context of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning plants, air ducts are intended to distribute the flow of air to supply air outletsover the area required (supply air ducts) or to collect extract air from the exhaust air openings (exhaust air ducts).
The main design requirements for air ducts are as follows: smooth interior (low pressure drop, low dust accumulation), easy to clean, durable, non-hygroscopic, non-flammable, non-corroding and air-tight (permitted air flow leakage to comply with DIN EN 13779). A summary of the most commonly used designs may be found in Table 1.
The air ducts should be dimensioned so that the required volumetric flows are distributed as specified to the air terminals without considerable effort for flow control (e. g. throttling). The requirement for exhaust air ducts is analogous
