This guideline serves as an orientational resource

• for working engineers who have seen their own skills reflected in the job description (see Section 5) and wish to obtain the corresponding qualifications, and

• for human resources development, further training concepts and instruction programmes prepared and implemented for technical specialists and managers who wish to be employed in the future as REs.

The RE must acquire and strengthen the corresponding competence not only in technical methodology but also in management skills. Both abilities are employed in performing duties as part of reliability activities, and for steering, co-ordinating and successfully completing their implementation. The RE needs to have basic knowledge in the field of reliability engineering and a specialization for the reliability tasks within the organization.
