Purpose of the guideline
This guideline provides information as to which calculations have in practice proved to be necessary with different machine sets in order to supply adequate information about the stresses on rotors or complete shaft lines caused by vibration and to determine their influence on the operational reliability of the machine set.
In the shaft lines of machine sets, dynamic stresses are created by time-variant dynamic effects originating in (driving) machines or driven process machinery. These stresses superimpose themselves on the load deriving from the corresponding nominal torque. The dynamic stresses frequently have a decisive effect on the dimensioning of the individual components, such as couplings, shafts, bearings and foundations, for example.
The effort needed for in a vibration analysis has virtually no relationship to the size or output of the machine set concerned. With smaller installations this may mean disproportionately high costs. For this reason the calculation effort should be kept to only what is necessary.
